Fiber in our Products
The perfect excuse for eating delicious foods
Wouldn't you rather eat a delicious dessert or sip a creamy shake than choke down a glass of gritty liquid or a handful of tablets or capsules? Then you are in the right place.
WiseChoice Dessert Mixes and ThickenThin thickeners were developed to let us make things that taste like the desserts and other foods we miss but can no longer have. To do this, we took advantage of the amazing culinary characteristics of vegetable gums. These gums happen to be a great source of soluble fermentable fiber. That means that, unlike most commercial fiber supplements, our fiber nourishes the microflora in our intestines. According to many authorities, these play an important role in our well-being.
Our Wise Choice products make delicious desserts that can be adapted to the requirements of special diets. As good as these desserts taste, one delicious serving also contains more fiber and fewer bioavailable carbohydrates than a serving of metamucil. In addition, gram-for-gram, it costs about the same. ThickenThin not/Sugar thickener allows you to make rich, creamy shakes, and supplies almost as much fiber as a serving of metamucil. Our other products may not supply fiber in amounts large enough to be considered "doses" but nearly all contribute significant amounts of the hardest-to-find fiber to your daily intake.
The bulk of the vegetable gums we use are agricultural exports from third world nations -- but processed in the U.S. to American food standards. They contribute significantly to their countries' economies. The agricultural methods used are not reported to damage the environment, other than the philosophical issue of converting anything to cropland. Because plants produce these gums only when grown under "stressed" conditions, the plants require little water. Many of the plants are leguminous which means they actually improve the soil.
As an organization that has no health professionals associated with it, Expert Foods is reluctant to make health claims. However, as we review the same studies that are available to everyone, we cannot help being impressed with the reports. Notable is the growing body of knowledge of the role of soluble fermentable fiber (our favorite type because it is so much fun for developing alternative recipes) in lowering cholesterol and regulating blood sugar. There have also been some tantalizing studies of its role in other conditions.
We would also like to reiterate that although some of our products might be classed as food supplements because of their high fiber content, they are manufactured to meet or exceed the more-stringent food manufacturing and labeling standards. They are made entirely from food-grade ingredients, all of which are natural. As an added level of safety, our products are manufactured under kosher supervision.
However, unless you are accustomed to a high-fiber diet, as with any fiber source, it is best to increase your consumption slowly. Although we have had reports of food lovers who were so thrilled to eat their favorite dishes again that they scarfed down numerous servings in one sitting without any ill effects, we recommend not doing this. It could make some people feel uncomfortably full and occasionally lead to gas, bloating, and even diarrhea. So take it slowly, start with one serving and, if you want more, add one additional serving each day as long as you experience no discomfort. Also remember, as good for you as our fiber may be, it cannot replace all the valuable nutrients in vegetables and fruits.
So eat up -- it really is good for you!
