Sugar-free Low-carb Italian (Water) Ices

The combination of Wise Choice Frozen Dessert Mix and the intense flavors and colors of sugar-free fruit gelatins can make you think you are eating real old-fashioned Italian ices. We think cherry tastes the most authentic.

Ingredients

  • 1 4-serving package of sugar-free fruit gelatin dessert
  • 1/2 cup boiling water plus 1/2 cup cold water
  • 4 tablespoons (half package) Wise Choice Frozen Dessert Mix
  • 4 cups crushed ice
  • additional water

Directions

Makes 8-10 1/2-cup servings.

1. Prepare a 4-serving package of sugar-free fruit gelatin dessert with 1/2 cup boiling water to dissolve and the 1/2 cup cold water to cool it.

2. In a blender, combine all the ingredients, adding enough cold water to cover. Blend to slush. Freeze in flat container.

To serve: let warm just barely enough that the ice can be shaved. Do not let the main block melt. Scrape it into crystals and scoop them into serving dishes. It is best to shave the ices each time you serve, but the can be prepared in advance if you are careful not to let them melt.

Note: the reason for the warnings against letting them melt is that these ices can form jello-y lumps as they melt.
