Texas-style Chili

Chili is a nice family dish that's also great for a crowd. This recipe is made the authentic Texas way, with no beans and no tomatoes.

 

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder, or to taste
  • 2 teaspoons cumin, or to taste
  • 1-2 teaspoons ThickenThin not/Starch thickener

     

Directions

Serves 8.

1. Brown meat lightly, drain fat into large saucepan.

2. Brown the onions in the fat from the meat, add garlic and cook until softened.

3. Return meat to pot. Add seasonings and enough water to barely cover the meat. Cook 1 hour, adding more water if necessary.

4. Towards the end of the cooking time, thicken with ThickenThin not/Starch thickener. Start with 1 teaspoon, and increase amount to taste until the gravy is thick enough.

Serving ideas: top with chopped tomatoes, onion, avocado, guacamole, shredded cheese, sour cream.
